Job summary

Mortenson, a leading construction and EPC firm, is seeking a Project Buyer II for its Power Team. You will manage supplier relationships, develop strategic purchasing solutions, and oversee procurement logs for multiple projects.

The role requires a bachelor’s degree with 4+ years of experience, strong negotiation and analytical skills, and a drive to reduce risk and increase margins. Travel to project sites may be required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in business, supply chain management, construction management or equivalent combinations of technical training and/or related experience.
• Minimum 4 years of experience
• Current driver's license
• Knowledge of construction processes, equipment and materials, purchasing processes and procedures
• Negotiating, organizing, planning, verbal and communication skills
• Strong customer service and analytical skills
• Active listening skills and effective communication including an openness to diverse input and feedback

Responsibilities

• Establish and maintain relationships with suppliers: solicit bids, analyze quotations, interview prospective suppliers, and select suppliers along with evaluating supplier performance based on quality, cost, and delivery time
• Work with manager to develop profitable purchasing strategies and propose procurement solutions that deliver value and reduce risk
• Create and maintain procurement logs for each supported operating group project
• Negotiate and prepare purchase agreements and purchase orders. Ensure suppliers adhere to contractual terms and conditions, including timeliness and quality standards
• Negotiate with suppliers to purchase items and services at the most favorable price consistent with quality, quantity, and specification requirements
• Analyze individual markets, handle budget and increase margin on a regular basis, track trends in purchasing habits
• Track order status from time of placing order until delivery and communicate status to project teams
• Visit project site to better understand project team challenges and develop streamlined procurement processes to be implemented
