Job summary

Southern Co. is seeking a Maintenance Specialist/System Owner for Plant Barry to ensure the overall health of the Balance of Plant systems L, M, H, S and P.

This role drives maintenance strategy development, condition assessment, outage planning, and budget ownership to deliver reliable energy production. Responsibilities include monitoring plant equipment, coordinating maintenance crews and contractors, maintaining safety and regulatory compliance, and guiding long-term maintenance initiatives

Qualifications

• Experience coordinating large projects in power/industrial plants.
• Minimum 5 years of power plant generation or related maintenance/ops.
• Knowledge of pumps, motors, valves, breakers, and related equipment.
• Experience with Maximo or equivalent CMMS and MS Office.
• Ability to communicate and work with diverse teams; strong planning skills.
• Willingness to work nights, weekends, and holidays.

Responsibilities

• Monitor routine operation of plant equipment and derive work scopes.
• Coordinate maintenance crews and contractors to execute work.
• Ensure quality, cost, and contract compliance including OSHA/regulations.
• Make technical repairs decisions and engage technical resources when needed.
• Develop relationships with vendors and contractors.
• Communicate system status and future needs to management and peers.
• Plan and schedule maintenance to optimize availability and reliability.
• Develop and implement maintenance strategies (short and long term).
• Monitor budgets (current and 5-year) for processes and equipment.
• Prepare work plans, coordinate materials, and facilitate planning/scheduling.
• Assist in outage work scopes and packages; optimize inventory levels.
• Develop technical specs for system contract renewals; troubleshoot issues.
