Job summary

NRG Energy in Alabama seeks an Instrumentation & Controls (I&C) Technician to install, calibrate, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair plant instrumentation and control systems at the Deer Park power generation facility.

The role supports normal operations, outages, startups, testing and commissioning; candidates should read P&IDs, loop diagrams and schematics, and be ready for overtime and callouts.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required; technical degree preferred.
• Experience with instrumentation, control systems, and electrical maintenance in an industrial setting.
• Ability to read P&IDs, loop diagrams, and schematics.
• Strong troubleshooting skills; able to work independently or in a team.
• Willingness to work overtime, callouts, weekends, and outages.

Responsibilities

• Maintain and troubleshoot plant instrumentation and control systems.
• Calibrate and repair instrumentation including valves, actuators, and sensors.
• Support DCS, CEMS, flame scanners, and turbine controls.
• Read P&IDs, loop diagrams, electrical schematics, and vendor manuals.
• Prepare LOTO packages; assist startups, outages, testing, and commissioning.
• Maintain calibration and work-order records; coordinate with operations, contractors, and vendors.
