Job summary

NRG Energy in Deer Park, TX, seeks an Instrumentation & Controls Technician to install, calibrate, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair plant instrumentation and control systems supporting safe and reliable operation. The role covers outages, startups, shutdowns, tests, and commissioning.

Responsibilities include maintaining field devices and I/O systems, calibrating instruments, supporting DCS/CEMS and turbine controls, and coordinating with operations and vendors.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Two years of experience in power generation, industrial instrumentation and controls, or related environment.
• Ability to interpret P&IDs, loop sheets, schematics, and control wiring diagrams.
• Strong troubleshooting skills and ability to work independently or in a team.
• Willingness to work overtime, callouts, weekends, holidays, varied shifts, and outage schedules.
• Must possess a TWIC card or be able to obtain one before start date.

Responsibilities

• Maintain and troubleshoot plant instrumentation and control systems, electrical equipment, field devices, wiring, I/O, networks, and control loops.
• Calibrate and repair instrumentation (pressure, temperature, flow, level, etc.) and maintain valves, actuators, and pneumatic systems.
• Support DCS/operator interface systems, CEMS, flame scanners, combustion controls, turbine controls, HRSGs, generators, and balance-of-plant systems.
• Read and interpret P&IDs, loop diagrams, electrical schematics, and vendor manuals.
• Prepare and execute LOTO packages; support startups, outages, commissioning, and testing.
• Maintain calibration, equipment, and work-order records; coordinate with operations, contractors, and vendors.
