Job summary

Salt River Project in Glendale, AZ is seeking a Control Room Operator trainee to learn the operation of coal, natural gas and other power units. You will monitor plant equipment from the control room and site, under supervision, and progress through the OST curriculum toward Operator Specialist classification.

The role includes training across environmental guidelines, plant processes, and coordinating with AGC for load changes. Shift work and overtime may be required during the training period.

Qualifications

• Must complete at least one year as O&M Specialist III, Operations or equivalent skills and knowledge.
• A high school diploma, GED, or equivalent is required.
• Must possess the appropriate valid Arizona driver's license.
• Appropriate respirator medical certification, fit test and training required.
• Physical agility test required.
• Trades assessment required.

Responsibilities

• OST is responsible for learning to operate and monitor equipment and auxiliaries by remote control from the control room as well as from throughout the facility.
• OST is responsible for operation of all units in his charge with his related equipment, including potential maintenance duties at the site.
• OST coordinates and maintains unit availability with AGC, planning for load reductions/increases based on system demands.
• OST learns to operate units within environmental and SRP guidelines.
• OST directs the work of other classifications and assists as directed in completing tasks.
• OST trains personnel in other classifications in the proper operation of plant equipment, controls, and procedures.
• OST learns how to evaluate plant processes and issue clearances; knowledge of clearance procedures is required.
