Job Description

This is the second level of the Distribution Engineering Technologist classification. The purpose of this position is to provide intermediate technical expertise to evaluate complex options and design power distribution facilities for residential, commercial, and industrial projects in a safe, cost-effective, and reliable manner. Incumbents should demonstrate experience with customer design, workflow processes, and technical skills in their area of expertise.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Interpret codes, standards, regulations, requirements, and guidelines; maintain records and update systems.
  • Develop site designs for electrical distribution facilities, applying client and company policies.
  • Create safe, cost-effective designs for overhead and underground distribution projects, including high-profile and highway relocation projects.
  • Prepare project packages, including material lists, requisitions, and drawings.
  • Coordinate with construction personnel and clients to resolve site issues.
  • Create work requests and communicate project details to clients and end-users.
  • Apply reliability principles to resolve power quality issues.
  • Develop relationships with customers and support company and client goals.
  • Perform field work to validate system requirements.
  • Assist in training employees and promote safety policies.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Regular attendance required.
  • High school diploma or GED; preferred associate's degree or higher.
  • 1-3 years of utility power distribution engineering or craft experience.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical documents.
  • Strong communication, mathematical, reasoning, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and capable of managing multiple tasks.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to participate in storm restoration activities.
Physical Demands & Work Environment

Includes frequent standing, walking, sitting, and use of hands; occasional climbing, stooping, reaching; vision requirements; and work in various environmental conditions, including outdoor and high places.
