SUMMARY:
This is the third level of the Engineering Technologist classifications. The purpose of this position is to provide a high level of technical expertise to accurately analyze complex options and prepare complex power distribution facility designs for residential, commercial, industrial projects, and large project work related to the reliability of the distribution grid. Incumbents are expected to demonstrate extensive experience with customer design, workflow processes, procedures, and technical skills in the client’s specific areas of expertise. The incumbent will assist in providing technical guidance to new or less experienced employees.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
With minimal supervision and guidance, the incumbent is responsible for performing the following duties:
- Interpret codes, standards, regulations, requirements, and guidelines, applying them appropriately to all assigned work orders or projects.
- Apply client/company policies and procedures in developing complex site designs for electrical distribution facilities to serve various customers.
- Design complex overhead or underground distribution projects across geographic areas, including commercial overhead and underground projects, downtown systems, high-profile projects, highway relocation projects, and others requiring high reliability and quality.
- Prepare project and job packages, including material lists, requisitions, site drawings, and construction drawings, in a cost-effective manner that maximizes safety and service reliability.
- Coordinate with construction personnel and clients/customers to resolve job site issues related to project design or customer concerns.
- Create work requests using the current work management tools and communicate effectively regarding schedules, commitments, project feasibility, timeframes, and expectations.
- Apply client/company reliability principles to resolve power quality issues by evaluating loading of overhead/underground equipment components, ensuring safe and cost-effective design and installation.
- Develop relationships with key internal and external customers, supporting business goals and representing the company professionally.
- Perform field work as needed to validate customer and system requirements.
- Lead, mentor, train, and provide technical support to other classifications.
- Learn, practice, and promote all safety policies and procedures consistently.
- Perform other duties as assigned by management.

Influences decisions of moderate nature requiring tact.

QUALIFICATIONS:

- Regular Attendance: Required.
- Education and Experience:
- Required high school diploma or GED.
- Preferred Associate's degree (AA or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school).
- Note: In certain situations, an Associate Degree or 4-year degree may be required based on client project or contractual requirements.
- Preferred Bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university in non-engineering science, math, or business.
- Experience: 3-5 years in utility power distribution engineering or craft.
