Job summary

WSP USA hosts hundreds of internships nationwide to provide hands-on, meaningful work experience and mentorship through the Developing Professionals Network. The Power and Energy team seeks a Full‑Time Electrical Engineering (ESSP) Intern to work out of our Ann Arbor, MI office, with locations including Freeport, ME, Maitland, FL, Indian Land, SC, and Syracuse, NY.

This 12-week summer internship starts May 17, 2027, with flexible start date.

Qualifications

• Actively enrolled in an accredited Electrical Engineering undergraduate program with graduation Aug 2027 or later.
• Must be 18+ years old and authorized to work in the United States at internship start.
• Demonstrated interest in EE, consulting engineering, or electric utility industries.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills for engineering and non-engineering audiences.
• Ability to take direction from leadership and mentors to execute projects.
• Basic proficiency with technical writing, office automation, software, spreadsheets, and tools.
• Commitment to workplace safety and adherence to policies.
• Willingness to travel occasionally and work in a customer-focused, project environment.
• Authorized to work in the United States at the start of the internship.
• Expected to work from the assigned office location at least three days per week.

Responsibilities

• Assist in electrical studies and developing/troubleshooting SCADA systems for utility and industrial clients.
• Support power system planning studies like power flow and voltage stability.
• Contribute to substation grounding, insulation coordination, and power quality analysis.
• Design and configure networking for SCADA and protection systems; assist with on-site commissioning.
• Develop logic and control schemes for power system equipment and perform field testing.
• Prepare data acquisition systems and develop HMI screens; assist with data transfer commissioning.
• Learn basic electrical engineering principles and participate in the 12-week summer program.
