Job summary

Mortenson is seeking a Project Buyer I to support the Power Delivery operating group. The role focuses on building supplier relationships, managing procurement activities, and ensuring timely delivery of materials and equipment for substations, wind collection systems, and transmission lines.

Responsibilities include negotiating bids, planning long‑lead items, drafting purchase agreements, and coordinating with project teams to align supply chain strategies with schedules.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent combinations of training and experience.
• 2+ years of procurement experience.
• Ability to manage multiple procurement activities with accuracy and timeliness.
• Knowledge of construction processes, equipment, and materials; purchasing procedures.
• Strong negotiation, planning, verbal and written communication skills.
• Excellent customer service and analytical abilities.
• Active listening and openness to feedback.
• Software experience relevant to procurement.
• Valid driver's license.

Responsibilities

• Purchase equipment and materials at best value while meeting specs.
• Collaborate with project teams to align supply chain with schedules.
• Plan material needs early to secure long-lead items.
• Solicit bids, analyze quotes, and select suppliers by cost and schedule.
• Ensure buyouts align with budgets and manage procurement risks.
• Interpret technical specs and confirm supplier compliance.
• Draft and execute purchase agreements; coordinate with Risk on surety.
• Lead supplier calls to monitor performance and resolve issues.
• Track orders from placement to delivery and communicate status.
• Conduct quarterly job site and supplier visits; strengthen relationships.
• Build relationships across diverse backgrounds and levels.
