Job summary

PepsiCo Deutschland GmbH in Rhinelander, WI is seeking a breeding technician to execute breeding activities primarily across potatoes and oat, with potential expansion to other crops. You will assist and lead projects within the breeding programs, working closely with assistant breeders to meet project objectives across greenhouses, growth rooms, fields, and phenotyping facilities.

The role sits in the Agricultural Science function within PepsiCo Foods R&D, reporting to on-site breeders.

Qualifications

• Nice to have: BS preferred in Plant Breeding, Horticulture, Agronomy, Biological Systems Engineering, Biology, or related discipline.
• Relevant experience in an active breeding/genetics program, agriculture, leading teams, data analysis, or inventory tracking is preferred.
• Attention to details and accurate record keeping.
• Ability to organize projects, lead teams, keep people motivated and drive for results.

Responsibilities

• Work with potato and oat breeders, assistant breeders, and other technicians to work in the greenhouses, growth rooms, fields, and phenotyping facilities.
• Support phenotyping activities in breeding trials and research nurseries with data collection and trait evaluations.
• Assist with seed packaging, planting, sampling, harvesting, and organizing breeding materials for shipment.
• Support greenhouse and growth room operations including seed pulling, planting, crop maintenance, pathogen testing, seed extraction, and inventory management.
• Utilize barcoding and inventory software to track and store seed, tuber, plant, and seed samples.
• Monitor and troubleshoot breeding operations and propose solutions to improve efficiency.
• Identify opportunities to improve quality and throughput in breeding operations.
• Comply with local EHS requirements and adapt to workflow delays to maintain productivity.
