Job summary

Huntsville Utilities is hiring a Water Systems Technician Operator I to perform installation, operation, maintenance, and repair of the distribution system’s electrical and mechanical drives. You will support groundwater plant operations, monitor water quality, and ensure regulatory compliance with local, state, and federal rules.

You will work with SCADA/telemetry to control reservoir valves, wells, and booster pumps, and coordinate daily with plant operators for process-related equipment

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Grade II Water Treatment Exam within one year of hire.
• Grade III or higher Water Treatment Operator Certification within two years.
• CDL Class A with Hazmat within one year.
• Three years electrical or mechanical work experience required.
• Basic computer skills required.

Responsibilities

• Perform installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical and mechanical drives.
• Monitor groundwater plants and maintain safety and regulatory compliance.
• Operate SCADA/telemetry to control valves, wells and pumps.
• Review logs and ensure accurate records at shift end.
• Coordinate with water treatment operations for equipment upkeep.
• Ensure regulatory compliance with EPA/ADEM and related bodies.
• Maintain equipment service records and assess wear on systems.
