Summary: Engage in independent and collaborative researchactivities to include designing, conducting and analyzingscientific experiments. Present results of the research along withdeveloping and maintaining knowledge of current scientificliterature.

Principal Functional Responsibilities:
Independent and Collaborative Research:

Conducts independent researchin collaboration with Principal Investigator. Designs experiments,constructs experimental setups, builds equipment components,collects data, analyzes data, and writes manuscripts.

Presentations:

Report and present researchfindings and developments.

Laboratory Maintenance:

Maintain generallaboratory cleanliness and safety and oversee regulatorycompliance.

Other Duties:

May instruct and train students andresearch staff in established techniques and procedures. Performother duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
  • PhD (in related field) or MD degree if sufficient researchtraining is documented.

Physical Requirements:

Ability to collect and analyzeexperimental data and handle animals when applicable. Must be ableto utilize applicable laboratory equipment necessary for the job,as well as a phone, computer and other office equipment.

The Smith Laboratory at NortheastOhio Medical University (NEOMED), in collaboration withthe Andrew Pieper Laboratory at University Hospitals/CaseWestern Reserve University, is seeking a highly motivatedPostdoctoral Research Fellow to join aninterdisciplinary research team investigating visual systemdysfunction and neurodegeneration following traumatic brain injury(TBI).

The Postdoctoral Fellow will play a key role in an ongoing fundedresearch program focused on understanding visual system dysfunctionfollowing traumatic brain injury (TBI). The project seeks to definehow TBI alters the structure, function, and molecular biology ofretinal ganglion cells (RGCs) to uncover the mechanisms driving the highly prevalent visual disturbances that persist in many patientsafter brain injury. Findings from this work are expected to advanceour understanding of neurodegenerative processes following TBI andidentify potential targets for therapeutic intervention.

Starting Salary Range:

$53,650 – $61,538,commensurate with experience.
