Job description

Overview

We seek a talented and highly motivated Postdoctoral Fellow to work as a computational scientist in the laboratory of Dr Kunal Rai, in the Genomic Medicine Department at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, Houston, Texas. The position is focused on the discovery of cancer-driving epigenome networks by applying computational methods for the analysis of single-cell multiome and spatial transcriptomics and epigenomics (ATAC-Seq/CUT&Tag) datasets and integrate with complex high-dimensional omics datasets from tumor samples in different cancer types/malignancies. This position will also collaborate with a group of wet lab and computational scientists to derive novel biological insights and identify biomarkers and therapies.

Learning objectives
  • Postdoctoral Fellow will develop and apply computational tools to gain insights from bulk, single-cell, and spatial epigenomic and transcriptomic data sets.
  • Learn to devise hypotheses, design analytical plans, and execute the strategy to perform innovative science.
  • Learn to work in multidisciplinary cross-functional teams within the lab and department of genomic medicine.
  • Gain experience in grant writing and training junior scientists/students.
  • Suitable candidates will have the opportunity for leadership training.
  • All duties and responsibilities are carried out in compliance with institutional policies, ethical research standards, and applicable federal and state regulations.
Eligibility requirements
  • Individuals with a Ph.D. degree in any discipline of biology, mathematics, or computation science.
  • Strong skills in statistics and programming, in particular R/Python, and interest in the application of state-of-the-art computational/statistical methods to complex data.
  • Experience with analysis of epigenomic data, single-cell and spatial, is highly desired.
  • Ability to work in a team is a must.
Additional application information
  • Interested applicants should send a Cover Letter specifying past research experience/skills/accomplishments, a Curriculum Vitae and the contact information of three referees to Dr. Kunal Rai with the subject line entitled "Postdoctoral Fellow - Application - Applicant's Name".
Position information
  • MD Anderson offers full-time postdoc positions with a salary ranging from $64,000 to $76,000, depending on the number of years of postgraduate experience.
  • The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center offers excellent benefits, including medical, dental, paid time off, retirement, tuition benefits, educational opportunities, and individual and team recognition.
  • Offsite work arrangements are subject to approval and may be modified or revoked at any time based on business needs, performance considerations, or regulatory requirements.
