Job summary

Michigan Medicine's Truttmann laboratory at the University of Michigan seeks to hire a postdoctoral research fellow to join the team focusing on ER proteostasis in aging and aging-associated diseases. We use models like C.

elegans, mouse, and iPSCs, and techniques such as gene editing, nanobody generation, and small molecule screens to identify and target novel mechanisms of protein misfolding. The ideal candidate will bring new expertise, collaborate, and develop their own scientific niche,

Qualifications

• PhD in genetics, cell biology, biochemistry, or related field.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, as well as interpersonal skills contributing to a strong team environment.
• Basic molecular biology expertise and familiarity with imaging microscopy techniques.
• Previous experience working with animal and/or cell-based experimental models.
• Previous first author publication(s).
• Strong letters of support from at least one mentor and one mentee.
• Previous experience using C.elegans, iPSCs, and/or murine models to study proteostasis.
• Clear career vision with a distinct plan for what skills and data they would like to acquire during this fellowship.

Responsibilities

• Design experiments
• Direct data generation and analysis
• Apply for independent funding (with PI support)
• Write research manuscripts and reviews (with PI input)
• Present experimental results internally and at scientific meetings
• Train new lab members in routine experimental procedures
• Mentor and provide leadership to other lab members including graduate students, undergraduate students, and staff technicians
