Job summary

Brookhaven National Laboratory seeks a Postdoctoral Research Associate to advance materials for superconducting qubits and circuits, connecting material characterization to device performance. You will lead thin film synthesis at CFN and participate in device fabrication and testing, collaborating with NSLS II and C2QA partners.

You will perform advanced characterization using synchrotron and lab-based X-ray techniques, contribute to a feedback loop from materials to devices, and publish results

Qualifications

• Ph.D. in an experimental physical science or engineering discipline within the past five years, or anticipated before start date.
• Experience with thin film synthesis by vapor deposition techniques.
• Familiarity with X-ray spectroscopy/scattering/diffraction methods (XPS/PES, XAS, XRD).
• Demonstrated ability to publish results and present at seminars.
• Ability to collaborate across a diverse multi-disciplinary team.

Responsibilities

• Contribute to synthesis of superconducting thin films and microfabrication of quantum devices.
• Investigate superconducting materials with advanced characterization to identify defects.
• Perform low-temperature electrical characterization of quantum devices.
• Correlate synthesis, processing, and characterization with device performance to drive improvements.
• Commit to safe, ethical, and accountable operation.
• Collaborate across C2QA and disseminate research via publications and conferences.
