Job summary

Iowa State University invites applications for a Postdoctoral Research Associate in the Ames National Laboratory appointment to conduct experimental research on superconducting and magnetic quantum materials, emphasizing thin films, interfaces, and qubit‑relevant phenomena.

The successful candidate will plan and perform measurements using cryogenic techniques, analyze data, and collaborate across condensed‑matter physics, materials science, and quantum information science.

Qualifications

Ph.D. in experimental condensed‑matter physics, materials physics, applied physics, materials science and engineering, or closely related field.
Strong background in experimental superconductivity, magnetism, and quantum materials; familiarity with low‑dimensional systems.
Hands‑on experience with low‑temperature techniques, cryogenic systems, vacuum equipment, magnetic fields, and precision measurements.
Experience with dilution refrigerators and millikelvin measurements is strongly preferred.
Experience developing or modifying experimental apparatus (AC susceptibility, RF/microwave measurements, optical magnetometry, magneto‑optical imaging).

Responsibilities

Plan and conduct experiments on superconducting and magnetic quantum materials.
Analyze experimental data and perform numerical calculations or simulations as appropriate.
Develop, operate, and improve custom measurement techniques for small-volume and thin-film samples.
Communicate results effectively across condensed‑matter physics, materials science, and quantum information science.
