Job summary

Brookhaven National Laboratory's Co-design Center for Quantum Advantage (C2QA) at BNL seeks a Postdoctoral Research Associate to advance materials for superconducting qubits and circuits, focusing on scalability of quantum information systems. You will join a cross-disciplinary team to develop new materials for superconducting qubits and connect materials characterization to device performance.

Qualifications

  • PhD in an experimental physical science or engineering field within the past five years, or to be completed prior to the starting date.
  • Experience with thin film synthesis by vapor deposition.
  • Familiarity with X-ray spectroscopy/scattering/diffraction methods (XPS/PES, XAS, XRD).
  • Clear presentation of results in scientific papers and seminars.
  • Ability to communicate and work effectively within a diverse multi-disciplinary and multi-institutional team.

Responsibilities

  • Synthesize superconducting thin films and microfabricate quantum devices to advance low-loss, scalable qubit technologies.
  • Investigate superconducting materials using advanced characterization techniques to identify and mitigate defects that cause decoherence.
  • Perform low-temperature electrical characterization and benchmarking of quantum devices with cryogenic facilities.
  • Correlate synthesis, processing and characterization with device performance to guide materials optimization.
  • Collaborate with researchers across the C2QA partnership and disseminate results through publications and conferences.
