Job summary

The Research Foundation of The City University of New York invites applications for a Postdoctoral Research Associate in the Nanoscience Initiative at the CUNY Advanced Science Research Center. You will lead the development of hardware and software systems to automate experimental workflows for the discovery and characterization of biomaterials.

Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, or closely related field.
  • Experience in scientific instrument control and laboratory automation.
  • Embedded systems development with hardware programming in C/C++, Python, and/or LabVIEW.
  • API development and software integration; motion control and instrument interfacing.
  • Familiarity with Linux or Windows for scientific software development.

Responsibilities

  • Design and build motorized sample stages for automated experimentation.
  • Develop embedded hardware and firmware for precision motion control and sensor integration.
  • Create software frameworks and API-based instrument control for data acquisition.
  • Integrate microscopy, imaging, and surface science instruments into automation workflows.
  • Develop workflows for peptide synthesis and high-throughput biomaterials experiments.
  • Develop scheduling, scripting, and remote-control capabilities for cloud-enabled labs.
  • Collaborate with national labs and other nodes to deploy automation solutions.
  • Document hardware and software designs and contribute to open-source tools.
  • Publish research and present findings at conferences.
