Job summary

The Research Foundation of The City University of New York (RFCUNY) invites applications for PostDoctoral Researchers at CCNY. The role focuses on AI agent-enabled reasoning and autonomous experimentation in bio-inspired materials, with researchers designing and executing multi-step lab workflows.

You will work at the interface of AI, robotics, and materials science, coordinating with partners such as Brookhaven National Laboratory and NVIDIA.

Qualifications

  • Ph.D. required in a relevant scientific or engineering field.
  • Experience or strong interest in AI/ML methods for autonomous decision making.
  • Experience or strong interest in hardware-enabled lab automation and robotics.
  • Ability to work independently and in a multidisciplinary team.
  • Commitment to responsible research, reproducibility, and clear communication of autonomous behavior.

Responsibilities

  • Research integration of AI-driven experimental design with automated materials synthesis and characterization.
  • Develop robust algorithms to control AI agents for designing and synthesizing bio-inspired materials.
  • Create autonomous workflows coordinating robots, analytical instruments, and cloud systems.
  • Publish impactful research in conferences and journals; collaborate across the RFCUNY network.
  • Mentor graduate students and undergraduates in AI-BIO-based projects at PCL nodes.
  • Collaborate with national labs and industry partners; perform other duties as assigned.
