The Post Settlement Paralegal plays a critical role in overseeing the final stages of resolved matters, ensuring clients receive their settlement proceeds accurately, efficiently, and ethically. This senior-level position assumes primary responsibility for files following settlement, verdict, or other resolution, managing the entire post-settlement lifecycle through final distribution and file closure. The role requires independent judgment, sophisticated lien and medical-bill analysis, strong organizational skills, and effective coordination with clients, attorneys, lienholders, and accounting personnel to ensure timely and compliant resolutions.

What you’ll do:
  • File Review: Immediately review the settlement files upon transfer to identify and manage outstanding requirements.
  • Lien & Medical Bill Resolution: Identify, verify, audit, and resolve outstanding medical bills, provider balances, liens, and reimbursement claims, including Medicare, Medicaid, ERISA, workers' compensation, governmental benefits, and other applicable statutory obligations. Negotiate appropriate reductions and compromises while ensuring accurate and compliant resolution.
  • Settlement Execution: Obtain and review settlement release forms for accuracy; coordinate execution and return of the documents to the appropriate parties.
  • Payment Tracking: Monitor settlement payment deadlines diligently and ensure timely collection of funds.
  • Settlement Distribution & Financial Reconciliation: Prepare accurate final settlement and disbursement statements, reconcile settlement proceeds, attorney fees, costs, liens, medical payments, and client distributions, and coordinate with attorneys and accounting/trust personnel to ensure all disbursements are properly authorized, documented, and compliant with applicable trust-account requirements.
  • Compliance & Performance Reporting: Monitor post-settlement performance metrics, particularly time from settlement to distribution, while ensuring timely, accurate, fully documented, and compliant disbursements without compromising client funds or ethical obligations.
  • Client Communication: Maintain consistent communication with clients regarding settlement status, outstanding liens or medical bills, anticipated next steps, and any issues affecting the timing of final distribution.
  • Risk Identification & Escalation: Independently identify discrepancies, complex lien or reimbursement issues, and potential legal, ethical, or trust-account concerns, escalating matters requiring attorney review before settlement funds are distributed.
  • Case Documentation: Maintain complete, accurate, and timely records of all post-settlement actions, communications, lien negotiations, payments, authorizations, and resolutions in the firm's case-management system.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with attorneys and administrative staff, ensuring smooth coordination of lien and bill compromise handoffs.
What we’re looking for:
  • Experience Required: Minimum of 5–8 years in plaintiff-side personal injury post-settlement administration, with significant experience in lien resolution and negotiation.
  • Specialized Lien Expertise: Strong working knowledge of medical liens, Medicare/Medicaid reimbursement, ERISA claims, workers' compensation liens, and provider balances, with the ability to navigate complex reimbursement and benefit-related issues.
  • Independent Judgment & Case Ownership: Demonstrated ability to independently analyze complex files, manage a substantial caseload, identify issues requiring attorney involvement, and proactively move matters toward timely resolution without sacrificing accuracy or compliance.
  • Technical Expertise: Proficiency in settlement workflows, lien negotiation, financial reconciliation, and the identification of enforceable liens.
  • Attention to Detail: Must demonstrate high attention to detail and the ability to work within structured, process-driven environments.
  • Communication Skills: Strong written and verbal communication skills, coupled with the ability to handle sensitive client interactions professionally.
  • Cultural Fit: Thrives in a metrics-focused team environment; exhibits a process-oriented mindset and openness to feedback.
Why you should work here:
  • Meaningful Impact: Play a key role in the firm's cash flow and client satisfaction, impacting both financial results and ethical standards.
  • Direct Leadership Interaction: Enjoy direct exposure to firm leadership and collaborate closely with experienced attorneys.
  • Autonomy & Ownership: Take primary responsibility for post-settlement matters, exercising independent judgment and driving files toward timely, accurate, and compliant resolution.
  • Process Improvement: Contribute to efficient post-settlement operations by identifying opportunities to improve case resolution timelines, maintain accuracy, and support consistent, compliant processes.
  • Competitive Compensation: Compensation will be based on experience and qualifications, with opportunities for performance-based incentives tied to key performance indicators.
