Job Summary

Dr. Kelly Jahn, Principal Investigator (PI) of the Neuroaudiology Laboratory, is seeking a highly motivated post-doctoral fellow with expertise in audiology and hearing science. The ideal candidate will hold a license to practice audiology in the state of Texas.

The lab’s research is centered on understanding how auditory perception changes across the lifespan and in response to hearing loss. A primary goal of this work is to develop improved clinical tools and treatments for hearing disorders. Particular focus areas include enhancing outcomes for individuals who use cochlear implants and those who experience hyperacusis (sound sensitivity).

Currently, the lab is engaged in several projects involving both typically developing individuals and clinical populations (e.g., autism spectrum disorder, cochlear implants, hyperacusis, tinnitus). A variety of qualitative, behavioral, and neuroimaging techniques are employed to examine how hearing disorders affect perceptual and neural responses to sound. One ongoing study is a clinical trial evaluating a novel sound sensitivity intervention for autistic adults.

The post-doctoral fellow will be primarily responsible for administering this clinical trial intervention, which includes counseling, sound therapy, and hearing aid fitting. Additional responsibilities include providing technical, analytical, and administrative support across various research projects. The fellow will also collect, interpret, and analyze research data in accordance with established protocols.

This position offers opportunities for professional development in publishing, presenting, grant writing, and mentoring graduate and undergraduate students—key experiences that will support a successful transition to an Assistant Professor role.

The position is housed in the Department of Speech, Language, and Hearing ( SLH ) within the School of Behavioral and Brain Sciences at The University of Texas at Dallas ( UTD — bbs.utdallas.edu). The SLH department hosts the nation’s #3 ranked graduate program in audiology. UTD is the fastest-growing university in Texas and is ranked #3 nationally among universities under 50 years old. The city of Dallas is a major economic center with a rich cultural scene and world-class sports and entertainment offerings.

The anticipated start date for this position is September 2025. Priority will be given to applicants licensed to practice audiology in Texas.

The lab is primarily located at the Callier Center in Dallas, with occasional duties at the UTD campus in Richardson. This position will report to both locations as scheduled by the supervisor.

Salary for Postdoctoral Research Associates in BBS is based on years of experience according to current NIH ( NRSA ) stipend levels. Final compensation will be commensurate with experience and qualifications. This position is funded for one year, with the possibility of renewal contingent on performance and continued funding availability.
