  • Strong programming skills in Python or related scientific computing environments.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • 1. Receives/Reviews progress and evaluates results of experimentsor projects under control or supervisory responsibility.
  • 2. Recommends changes in research, testing or experimentalprocedures.
  • 3. May be responsible for a single highly technical and complexpiece of research equipment.
  • 4. May review and evaluate the effectiveness of personnel.
  • 5. May plan for and assign personnel to projects undercontrol.
  • 6. Operates with latitude for unreviewed action.
  • 7. May receive general supervision conferring with higher levelsonly in unusual situations.
  • 8. Performs other job-related duties as required.
Position Description

The successful candidate will conduct research at the intersectionof artificial intelligence (AI), process-based modeling, andextreme-event science. The postdoctoral researcher will develop andapply advanced modeling approaches to investigate extreme events,such as flooding and wildfires, and assess their impacts onecosystems, environmental systems, and human communities. Thepostdoctoral researcher will be expected to contribute to modeldevelopment and evaluation, data analysis, manuscript preparation,presentation of research results at scientific conferences, andcollaboration with interdisciplinary research teams.

Preferred Qualifications
  • -Ph.D. in Hydrology, Atmospheric Science, Remote Sensing,Environmental Science, Computer Science, Geographic InformationScience, -Earth Science, or a closely related field.
  • -Strong quantitative and modeling skills, with experience in one ormore of the following areas:
    • --Machine learning or deep learning
    • --Process-based environmental modeling
    • --Remote sensing and geospatial data analysis
  • -Strong programming skills, particularly in Python or relatedscientific computing environments.
  • -Strong written and oral communication skills.

MQ: Requires singular knowledge of a specialized advancedprofessional discipline or the highest level of general businessknowledge, normally acquired through attainment of a directlyjob-related terminal degree or equivalent formal training in arecognized field of specialization that is directly related to thetype of work being performed. No experience is required.
