Job summary

Madison County is seeking a part-time Deputy Sheriff for Courthouse Security to protect life, limb and property. The role includes guarding entrances, validating access, and screening for prohibited items at security checkpoints, with POST certification required.

Applicants must be POST certified, meet physical and background standards, and be able to work as part of a team under the Sheriff’s direction. Training on laws and procedures is provided by the agency.

Qualifications

• Must hold current POST certification in good standing.
• High school diploma or GED or equivalent.
• POST requirements include conduct, fitness, and firearms qualification.

Responsibilities

• Guard entrances of Courthouse and Madison County buildings against illegal access.
• Permit authorized persons to enter and screen for prohibited items.
• Prevent forbidden articles from entering; procure prohibited items when required.
• Assist Sheriff's Department under the direction of the Sheriff.
• Operate security checkpoints and badge/purse checks as part of routine procedures.
