Job summary

Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) School of Medicine in Richmond seeks a Research Administrator to support post-award research administration and sponsorship compliance. You will work with PIs and central offices to manage the lifecycle of sponsored projects, ensuring timely, accurate, and proactive support.

The role operates within a shared service model across departments, with opportunities for remote work through VCU’s Flexible Work Arrangement.

Qualifications

• 2+ years of direct pre and post-award research administration experience.
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience; ability to interpret complex government regulations.
• Excellent customer service and strong written and verbal communication skills; proactive in seeking guidance.
• Proficient in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Adobe; strong problem solving and time management.

Responsibilities

• Send monthly reporting (effort summaries, financial projections, MER review).
• Serve as liaison between PI, department, sponsor and central offices for financial management of awards.
• Establish, monitor, and reconcile budgets per sponsor guidelines; manage effort reporting and salary allocations.
• Review grant transactions, prepare financial reports, and coordinate award modifications.
• Ensure timely submission of sponsor reports and support audits; maintain grant records.
• Provide financial guidance to PIs and staff; respond to inquiries promptly.
