Job summary

Virginia Commonwealth University is seeking a Research Administrator in the School of Medicine to provide comprehensive post-award support, ensuring compliance and efficient management of sponsored projects. You will collaborate with PIs, department leadership, and central offices to oversee lifecycle activities from proposal development through award closeout.

The role operates in a shared service model across clinical and basic science research.

Qualifications

• Candidates with 2+ years of direct pre and post award research administration experience.
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience.
• Must interpret and apply complex government regulations and contractual terms.
• Excellent customer service, written and verbal communication skills; proactive in seeking guidance.
• Strong problem solving and time management; prioritize deadlines.
• Proficient in budget development, financial reconciliation, and reporting tools.
• Commitment to respect, professionalism, and civility with diverse populations.

Responsibilities

• Send out monthly reporting (Effort Summaries, financial projections, MER review confirmations).
• Serve as the primary liaison between PI, department, sponsor, and central offices for financial management of awards.
• Establish, monitor, and reconcile budgets per sponsor guidelines.
• Manage effort reporting, salary allocations, and ECC compliance; coordinate payroll adjustments.
• Review and process grant transactions, including subawards and cost transfers.
• Prepare and review financial reports (forecasts, burn rates) for budgets and funding.
• Coordinate award modifications (no-cost extensions, carryovers, revisions).
• Ensure timely sponsor reports submissions and support audits.
