Job summary

Muskegon-Heights-Public-School-Academy is seeking a dedicated Behavior Interventionist to advocate for students' diverse needs, supporting attendance, safety, health and academic progress, and coordinating behavior interventions with staff.

You will work with teachers, counselors and administrators to develop targeted plans, track disciplinary referrals, connect families to community services, and help establish a culture of high expectations and respectful behavior.

Qualifications

• Associate degree with communication, education or related fields.
• Bachelor's degree preferred with concentration in communication, education, or related fields.
• Desired 3 years minimum experience with community outreach activities/programs
• Successful clear criminal background check.

Responsibilities

• Develop targeted strategies to reduce problematic behaviors and encourage productive behaviors through means such as positive reinforcement.
• Provides leadership and support; advises and counsels teachers and students who experience disciplinary issues in accordance with the Academy's student code of conduct and established disciplinary program and guidelines.
• Work closely with the individual(s) and with other professionals to assess the student's behaviors and create a specially designed plan.
• Contacts parents regarding any discipline referrals which include, but are not limited to, removal from class, detention or suspension.
• Tracks all disciplinary referrals from teachers and staff in the database system.
• Coordinates and implements individual plans.
• Creates general strategies for behavior assessment with the principal and other academy administrators.
• Works closely with the principal and other Academy administrators to establish and maintain a strong culture of academic excellence and disciplined behavior among students.
• Assists the Principal in overseeing student advisory implementation, home visits and monitors, tracks and reports on progress of advisory activities.
• Helps students develop mental capabilities and healthy habits that can last for the rest of their lives.
• Collaborate with community agencies.
• Connect parents/guardians to community services.
• Other duties as assigned.
