Job summary

Santander is seeking an Associate in Portfolio Management for the Commercial Banking Middle Market team in the United States. The role focuses on underwriting new loans for private and publicly owned businesses and ongoing portfolio management of existing lending relationships.

Qualifications

• 5+ Years Experience in credit structuring and underwriting and cross selling.
• Strong analytical skills and proficiency with financial statement modeling.
• Strong credit skills with the capacity to evaluate strength and weakness of a wide variety of credits.
• Formal credit training program preferred.
• Ability to produce high quality underwriting documents with concise, well‑reasoned analysis under tight time constraints.
• Ability to work independently and proactively address the needs of assigned portfolio.
• Excellent interpersonal, team building and communication skills.
• Thorough understanding of regulations governing financial products and services.
• Proficient with Microsoft office

Responsibilities

• Lead underwriting due diligence and partner with relationship managers and junior deal team members to produce deal screen and underwriting documents.
• Interface with clients and other stakeholders to facilitate underwriting process.
• Detail debt financings and company financials utilizing Excel and Webster’s credit management platform, Sageworks.
• Perform sensitivity analysis and modeling of projected cash flows.
• Draft approval document narrative, identify risks and mitigating factors, and assign risk grade.
• Responsible for presenting underwriting memos to credit committee.
• Support legal documentation drafting and negotiations.
• Facilitate loan closing process with commercial loan operations.
• Review, spread, and maintain periodic financial statements, compliance certificates and borrowing base reports.
• Engage with borrowers’ CFOs for qualitative updates on performance.
