Job summary

Santander is seeking an Associate for Portfolio Management in Boston to support underwriting and ongoing portfolio management of lending relationships. You will work with portfolio and relationship managers to analyze borrowers, prepare memos, and monitor covenant compliance in a fast-paced environment.

The role requires 5+ years in credit structuring, strong analytical and communication skills, and proficiency with Excel and credit platforms.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in related field or equivalent demonstrated through work experience, training, military service, or education – Required.
• 5+ years of experience in credit structuring and underwriting and cross selling.
• Strong analytical skills and proficiency with financial statement modeling.
• Strong credit skills with the capacity to evaluate strength and weakness of a wide variety of credits.
• Formal credit training program preferred.
• Ability to produce high quality underwriting documents with concise, well-reasoned analysis under tight time constraints.
• Ability to work independently and proactively address the needs of assigned portfolio.
• Excellent interpersonal, team building and communication skills.
• Thorough understanding of regulations governing financial products and services.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office.

Responsibilities

• Lead underwriting due diligence and partner with relationship managers and junior deal team members to produce deal screen and underwriting documents.
• Interface with clients and other stakeholders to facilitate underwriting process.
• Detail debt financings and company financials utilizing Excel and Webster’s credit management platform.
• Perform sensitivity analysis and modeling of projected cash flows.
• Draft approval document narrative, identify risks and mitigating factors, and assign risk grade.
• Present underwriting memos to credit committee.
• Support legal documentation drafting and negotiations.
• Facilitate loan closing process with commercial loan operations.
• Review, spread, and maintain periodic financial statements and reports.
• Engage with borrowers' CFOs to get qualitative updates on performance.
