Portfolio Manager, VP (Financial Institutions)

Position Overview

We are seeking a credit-focused professional with strong underwriting skills and experience in a commercial lending environment. The ideal candidate will have formal credit training and experience analyzing mid to large corporate clients. This role involves supporting deal execution by assessing credit risk, preparing underwriting materials, and navigating transactions through internal approval processes. A solid understanding of commercial credit fundamentals and keen attention to detail are essential. Experience in the non-bank lender space is a plus but not mandatory.

Key Responsibilities
  • Facilitate decision-making and analysis of credit information to support lending decisions.
  • Maintain a client service environment that exceeds customer expectations.
  • Make credit decisions and recommendations aligned with sound principles and bank policies.
  • Establish cross-selling initiatives to deepen client relationships.
  • Apply expertise in bank products, processes, and systems to ensure high-quality client experiences.
  • Coordinate closing processes with relevant departments and stakeholders.
  • Serve as a daily escalation resource to meet client expectations.
  • Act as a trusted advisor to assigned business groups.
  • Influence and negotiate to achieve business objectives.
  • Develop financial models and analytical tools to evaluate client capital structures.
  • Design and produce reports and dashboards for management and clients.
  • Stay informed on financing trends in target markets and communicate insights.
  • Prepare concise credit correspondence and lending proposals.
  • Negotiate transaction terms and structure deals effectively.
  • Monitor ongoing asset and client performance.
  • Manage workflow of analysts and other team members as needed.
  • Provide accurate financial analysis and risk assessments for new and existing clients.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to gather comprehensive client information.
  • Assist in negotiations and prepare summaries on creditworthiness.
  • Adhere strictly to internal credit policies to minimize risk exposure.
  • Contribute to operational planning and strategic initiatives.
  • Build and maintain effective relationships with stakeholders.
  • Provide technical support and act as a subject matter expert.
  • Handle non-routine situations independently.
Qualifications
  • Typically 5-7 years of relevant experience, with a post-secondary degree or equivalent.
  • Deep knowledge of credit analysis and commercial banking practices.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Compensation and Benefits
