Job summary

National Funding is seeking a Portfolio Management Specialist (Collections) in the San Diego area. Hybrid schedule: 3 onsite days and 2 remote days, with an hourly pay rate of $26.00–$28.00 and annualized pay of $54,080–$58,240, plus incentives.

The role combines customer service, loan modifications, and collections across funded accounts, reporting to Portfolio Management leadership and collaborating with Sales, Accounting, and Litigation.

Qualifications

• 1–3 years’ experience in high-volume collections, loan servicing, or customer service.
• Salesforce or similar CRM experience preferred; proficient in Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word, and Outlook.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills with a professional, empathetic phone presence.

Responsibilities

• Serve as a primary point of contact for customer inquiries after funding, including balance and payoff requests, and payment history.
• Respond to inbound calls, emails, and texts promptly and professionally; manage inbound emails and activities to ensure timely responses.
• Identify and escalate sensitive matters according to Company procedures (e.g., bankruptcy, attorney representation, fraud).
• Coordinate with Sales, Accounting, and Litigation on customer accounts in a timely manner.
• Manage loan modification requests from intake to setup within guidelines.
• Maintain portfolio across brands and servicing systems; work daily return payment cases within timeframe.
• Reduce delinquency through outbound calls, negotiate payment schedules and lump sums.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

• Hours: 7:00-3:30, 7:30-4:00, or 8:00-4:30 (you can select which work schedule is best for you), Monday-Friday

What You’ll Be Doing:

Under general supervision, the Portfolio Management Specialist manages an assigned portfolio of funded accounts and serves as a primary point of contact for customers after funding. The role combines three core functions: customer service, loan modifications, and collections. This position reports to Portfolio Management leadership and works closely with Sales, Accounting, and Litigation.

Major Responsibilities:

• Serve as a primary point of contact for customer inquiries after funding, including balance and payoff requests, and payment history.
• Respond to inbound calls, emails, and texts promptly and professionally; work assigned inbound email tasks and open activities so every customer communication receives a timely response.
• Identify and elevate sensitive matters according to Company procedures, including bankruptcy filings or threats, attorney representation, debt relief company involvement, and customer complaints.
• Communicate and follow up with Sales, Accounting, and Litigation on customer accounts in a timely manner.
• Manage loan modification requests from intake and information gathering through decisioning and set up within established guidelines.
• Manage an assigned portfolio of funded accounts across the Company’s brands and servicing systems. Work daily return payment cases within required timeframe.
• Reduce delinquency on assigned accounts through a high volume of outbound calls and texts, negotiating payment schedules, payment arrangements, and lump sums.
• Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

• 1–3 years’ experience in high-volume collections, loan servicing, or customer service, preferably in commercial lending, small business finance, or financial services.
• Salesforce or similar CRM experience preferred; proficient in Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word, and Outlook.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills, with a professional, empathetic phone presence and the ability to de-escalate difficult conversations.
• Strong negotiation skills and the ability to balance the customer’s needs with the Company’s objectives.
• Sound judgment, critical thinking, and the ability to synthesize information and draw conclusions.
• Integrity and discretion in handling confidential customer and financial information.
• Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail, including accurate and timely documentation.
• Ability to prioritize, meet daily deadlines, shift priorities quickly, and handle multiple assignments simultaneously.
• Bilingual (English/Spanish) a plus
