Job summary

Pye-Barker Fire & Safety in Piedmont, SC is seeking a Portables Technician to independently perform inspections, maintenance, and servicing of portable fire protection equipment, following NFPA standards and company procedures.

Role requires documentation of services, travel to sites, and strong safety awareness while working in commercial, industrial, and construction environments. 3+ years in the field and a high school diploma are required or preferred (NICET I+).

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent is required.
• 3+ years of experience in fire and life safety as an apprentice or technician.
• NICET Level I or above preferred.
• Ability to work independently and manage assigned tasks.
• Strong understanding of portable fire protection equipment and applicable codes.
• Must have a clean driving record and active driver's license (if driving role).

Responsibilities

• Inspect, test, maintain, and service portable fire extinguishers and related equipment independently.
• Complete standard service calls without supervision while ensuring quality and compliance.
• Perform annual inspections, maintenance, and assist with testing as required.
• Document services performed, including tagging and reporting.
• Identify deficiencies and recommend corrective actions to customers and supervisors.
• Travel to job sites as required.
• Maintain safety practices and proper use of tools and equipment.
