Job summary

T-Solutions in Chesapeake, VA, seeks a Port Engineer to ensure ships' operational readiness. As onboard representative, you will validate shipboard conditions through observation and evaluation, lead a maintenance team, and serve as primary TYCOM and CO liaison for off-ship maintenance and modernization.

You will develop plans, manage maintenance funding, review specifications, and coordinate with ship crews and department heads to keep mission readiness.

Qualifications

  • USCG Merchant Marine Third Assistant Engineer (unlimited) license or higher with at least two years sea time.
  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent marine engineering degree.
  • Knowledge of commercial maritime, USN, USCG, MSC, or NOAA ship maintenance and repair.
  • Combined recent professional maritime experience greater than or equal to five years.

Responsibilities

  • Manages an online database for all jobs.
  • Validates work requests, assigns preliminary estimates and plans prioritized work packages within budget and time constraints for TYCOM approval.
  • Reviews work specifications, coordinates schedules with repair activities, oversees repairs, and provides input for maintenance funding decisions.
  • Meets daily with ships' crew, department heads, and commanding officers.
  • Reviews implementation, challenges, opportunities, and resources relating to the Consolidated Ship's Maintenance Plan.
  • Provides risk assessment and prioritization to the vessel's commanding officer using the approved TYCOM format for all on-and off-ship maintenance requirements.
