Job summary

The Cooper Group in Louisiana seeks a Port Engineer to oversee maintenance, repair, and operation of inland towing vessels within our fleet. You will ensure reliability and compliance, coordinating preventive maintenance and major overhauls.

The ideal candidate will have strong marine engineering knowledge, experience with vessel systems, and familiarity with Coast Guard and Subchapter M regulations. TWIC card and proactive problem-solving are highly valued.

Qualifications

  • Strong understanding of marine engineering principles.
  • Experience with inland towing vessels.
  • Demonstrated regulatory compliance knowledge (Coast Guard, Subchapter M).
  • Proven leadership and team coordination abilities.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee maintenance and repair of inland towing vessels, including engines, propulsion, electrical systems, and auxiliary equipment.
  • Coordinate preventive maintenance programs to ensure reliability and availability of the fleet.
  • Supervise dry-dockings, repairs, and major overhauls for regulatory compliance and industry standards.
  • Manage maintenance schedules, work orders, and spare parts inventory to minimize downtime.
  • Conduct regular vessel inspections and ensure adherence to company policies and regulations.
  • Collaborate with operations to address technical issues and provide engineering support.
  • Review and approve technical specs for repairs and modifications.
  • Provide technical guidance to crews and maintenance staff for safe operations.
  • Monitor vessel performance data to identify efficiency improvements.
  • Stay updated on industry developments and regulatory changes to implement best practices.
