Job summary

Southern Devall Towing Co is seeking a Port Engineer to oversee the maintenance, reliability, and regulatory compliance of assigned vessels. The role serves as the primary shoreside engineering resource for vessel crews and ensures vessels remain safe, reliable, and inspection-ready.

Responsibilities include monitoring systems, coordinating shipyard work, and maintaining thorough records. The position requires frequent travel across the Gulf Coast and a strong focus on safety and proactive

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Marine Engineering or related field preferred; sea-time may be considered as equivalent
  • Minimum 5 years' progressive experience in marine industry, preferably with towing or similar vessels
  • Strong knowledge of marine diesel engines, propulsion, generators, hydraulics, electrical systems and auxiliary machinery
  • Experience managing vessel repairs, shipyard projects, or marine engineering activities
  • Experience working with vessel crews, shipyards, OEMs, and regulatory agencies
  • Knowledge of USCG Subchapter M regulatory requirements

Responsibilities

  • Monitor vessel systems and schedule maintenance per OEM recommendations and company standards
  • Oversee shipyards and vendors to ensure quality, timelines, and budgets
  • Maintain vessels in 'always ready' condition for USCG and industry inspections
  • Review work orders and prioritize maintenance activities based on safety and regulatory needs
  • Provide technical support and troubleshooting to vessel crews
  • Analyze equipment failures and develop root-cause corrective actions
  • Maintain records of maintenance, inspections, warranties, and equipment history
  • Travel extensively across the Gulf Coast region as needed
