Job summary

American Commercial Barge Line is seeking a Port Engineer to manage repair scheduling, cost control, and timely completion of vessel and barge repairs at designated port locations, ensuring safe operations and cost-efficient maintenance.

The role collaborates with internal departments, shipyards, suppliers, and regulators to maximize fleet reliability, minimize downtime, and prevent cargo losses while ensuring compliance with company policies and government regulations.

Qualifications

• Must have valid driver’s license and TWIC card.
• Experience supervising teams and coordinating maintenance activities.
• Knowledge of barge operations, tank transfers, and river systems.
• Familiarity with USCG, OSHA, and MSDS regulations.

Responsibilities

• Leads maintenance team to reduce downtime and ensure safety and regulatory compliance.
• Develops standards with vendors to ensure timely, safe service completion.
• Approves on-site repair costs within authority limits and coordinates with shops.
• Plans fleet repairs, capital expenditures, and procedures to improve asset availability.
• Responds to vessel emergencies and supports incident investigations.
