Job summary

The YMCA in Austin is seeking a lifeguard to supervise pools, enforce safety rules, and respond to emergencies, ensuring a safe and welcoming environment for all members.

You will support aquatic programs, assist with swim lessons, and maintain pool-area cleanliness while upholding the YMCA's values of care, honesty, respect, and responsibility. Must be 18+, with lifeguard certification and CPR/AED/First Aid, including Oxygen Administration.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 18 years old.
• Hold a current YMCA or American Red Cross Lifeguard certification, including CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers, First Aid, and Oxygen Administration.
• Previous experience as a lifeguard, swim instructor, competitive swimmer, or swim team participant preferred.
• Strong swimming ability, rescue skills, and physical stamina.
• Ability to remain calm, make sound decisions, and respond effectively in emergencies.
• Ability to recognize hazards, enforce pool rules, and maintain a safe aquatic environment.

Responsibilities

• Proactively monitor pool areas and enforce safety rules to prevent accidents.
• React to emergencies with appropriate first aid and CPR to achieve positive outcomes.
• Identify and resolve potential hazards immediately to prevent incidents.
• Regularly inspect pool equipment and facilities and report issues.
• Inform members about pool rules and safety procedures to encourage compliance.
• Assist with swim lessons and aquatics programs to support skill development.
• Maintain cleanliness and organization in pool area and locker rooms.
• Attend trainings and staff meetings to stay up-to-date with safety procedures.
• Demonstrate YMCA values in all interactions and promote a culture of respect and care.
• Serve as an ambassador for the organization and share the Y's work with members and guests.
• Complete other duties as assigned.
