Job summary

YMCA is seeking a dedicated lifeguard for our Austin, TX pool area. The role focuses on safety, vigilance, and member support, ensuring a welcoming and secure environment for all ages.

You will monitor facilities, enforce rules, and respond to emergencies with trained first aid and CPR. You’ll also participate in swim lessons, maintain cleanliness, attend trainings, and uphold YMCA values in every interaction with members and staff.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 18 years old.
• Hold a current YMCA or American Red Cross Lifeguard certification, including CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers, First Aid, and Oxygen Administration.

Responsibilities

• Proactively monitor pool areas and enforce safety rules to prevent accidents.
• React to emergencies with appropriate first aid and CPR, aiming for positive outcomes.
• Identify and resolve potential hazards immediately to prevent incidents.
• Regularly inspect pool equipment and facilities and report issues.
• Inform members about pool rules and safety procedures to ensure compliance.
• Assist with swim lessons and aquatics programs to support member skill development.
• Maintain cleanliness and organization in pool areas and locker rooms.
• Attend trainings and staff meetings to stay up-to-date with safety procedures.
• Demonstrate YMCA values in all interactions and foster a culture of respect and belonging.
• Serve as an ambassador for the YMCA and share the Y’s work and culture with members and guests.
• Complete other duties as assigned.
