Position Overview

Posting for a part‑time, hourly faculty position in the Physical Sciences Department at Albany Campus, Albany, OR. This is a pooled posting; applicants remain on a continuous pool until a vacancy arises.

Job Summary

The Physical Sciences Department offers a wide range of courses including general science, astronomy, science, technology & society, chemistry for health occupations, general chemistry, organic chemistry, algebra‑based physics, and calculus‑based physics. The instructor will develop, plan, and present organized lectures, laboratory activities, and out‑of‑class assignments in accordance with approved course outlines.

Essential Duties

1. Impart excitement and enthusiasm into the teaching of physics.
2. Develop course schedules and syllabi.
3. Plan, develop, and deliver classroom lectures and activities; write tests and develop other methods to evaluate student progress and competence.
4. Design or adapt interesting laboratory exercises designed to engage non‑science majors.
5. Practice and enforce departmental approved safety regulations in the lab room.
6. Maintain accurate records of laboratory equipment and ensure all equipment is left in good condition at the end of each laboratory section.
7. Deliver brief pre‑lab lectures and evaluate student progress and competence.
8. Promote good laboratory technique and conduct end‑of‑lab clean‑up.
9. Work effectively with students and staff of diverse cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds; interact with supervisors, colleagues, and staff as part of an education team.
10. Communicate effectively in oral and written English.
11. Keep accurate grade and attendance records.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

• Ability to stand for extended periods of time; sufficient hand, arm, and finger dexterity to set up and operate equipment.
• Normal hearing and speaking skills to communicate with staff and students.
• Visual acuity to read words and numbers and operate laboratory equipment.
• About 70% of the job duties require standing.
• Work may be performed in classrooms and college science labs.
• Considerable exposure to safety or health hazards.
• May be required to work after hours or for special weekend events.

Education and Experience

• Master's degree or minimum of 27 graduate quarter hours in physics.
