Position Overview

The Department of Information Technology in the School of Professional Studies at the University of Kansas Edwards Campus invites qualified scholars and professionals with experience in information technology to submit applications that will be reviewed and placed in a pool for consideration for part‑time Instructor positions. An Instructor teaches an undergraduate or graduate level course and must possess an advanced degree.

A successful candidate must have appropriate authorization to work in the U.S. before employment begins. Any employment with the University of Kansas is contingent upon satisfactory completion of a background check. Appointments are one semester, renewable and subject to review, funding, and adequate student enrollment.

The Instructor is a union covered position within the collective bargaining unit represented by United Academics of KU, AFT - AAUP , AFL - CIO ; UAKU is the exclusive bargaining representative. As the State of Kansas is a right‑to‑work state, you have the right to be a member or not to be a member of the union without fear of personal or professional repercussions.

Key Responsibilities
  • Plans, prepares and presents lectures for one or more undergraduate or graduate courses in information technology based on an approved course syllabus.
  • Develops and grades assignments, projects and exams.
  • Supervises course projects and in‑class lab sessions, evaluates student work, and provides feedback to students. Maintains office hours as necessary to meet students needs.
  • All instructors are expected to collaborate with colleagues, be current in the field, and are required to adhere to department, school/college and university policies and procedures.
Required Qualifications
  1. Earned Master’s degree in Information Technology, Computer science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering or a closely related technical discipline. A Master’s degree in other fields may be considered if combined with two or more years of professional experience directly relevant to the teaching assignment.
  2. At least two years or more practical experience in Information Technology.
  3. This position requires a formal degree in the cited discipline area(s) to ensure that candidates have advanced knowledge, analytical skills and professional competencies necessary to perform the duties of the position. The level of degree is commonly recognized as the standard qualification for similar roles in the public and private sector, ensuring that the university remains competitive with industry‑aligned practices, enhances collaboration with external partners, and supports the delivery of services and programs that meet professional and market‑driven expectations.

  1. Earned Doctorate in Information Technology, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering or a closely related technical discipline.
