Job description

Position Title

[POOL] Catering Assistant

Job Summary

Performs basic catering service duties for Culinary Arts Catering, including preparation of food items, serving, and set‑up and/or takedown of events. Assists Catering Division employees with other tasks as needed.

Essential Duties
  1. Prepare for catering events by setting up buffets before the start time and cleaning up when the customers are finished.
  2. Prepare food and beverages for event orders according to the customers’ specifications in an efficient and accurate manner, including hot/cold food preparation, baked items, and beverages.
  3. Maintain positive and respectful communication with kitchen crew and clients.
  4. Keep work and service area safe, sanitary, and orderly. Understand and comply with County, State, and Federal health codes.
  5. Clean preparation and service equipment.
  6. Restock workstations for needed supplies and notify Catering Lead of items needing to be ordered.
  7. Wash dishes and assist with cleaning in other areas as needed.
  8. Perform other related duties as assigned.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

Long periods standing plus light to medium work, including kneeling, and carrying and lifting of light to medium weight materials (10 to 50 pounds). Must be able to operate a computer and general office equipment. Requires ability to communicate effectively in person and over the phone. Work is normally performed in a kitchen setting with some safety hazards. Some weekend and evening hours, and occasional travel to offsite may be required.

Education and Experience
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Current Food Handler’s card or ability to obtain it within 30 days of employment.
  • Preferred: Minimum one year of experience in food service with kitchen equipment such as knife, meat slicer, dishwasher, deep fryer, flat top grill, convection ovens, range, and robot coupe food processor.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • High school level reading, writing, and arithmetic skills.
  • Knowledge of kitchen utensils and equipment.
  • Understanding of safety and sanitation practices and procedures.
  • Strong customer relations skills.
  • Ability to carry out duties independently.
  • Ability to read and comprehend instructions and safety materials.
  • Understanding of labels and instructions for detergents and chemicals.
  • Ability to handle food and equipment in a manner meeting health and safety standards.
  • Ability to work safely around hot surfaces and kitchen equipment.
  • Ability to receive and carry out written and oral instructions.
  • Teamwork and promotion of harmonious relationships.
  • Customer interaction that reflects positively on the department.
  • Respectful interaction with individuals of all cultures, backgrounds, perspectives, and abilities.
Employment Requirements

Criminal Background Check – C4.

Compensation

All Part‑time Classified employees begin at Step 1 of the salary schedule, corresponding to the position’s grade. Placement at a higher step is not negotiable. Step increases are subject to eligibility, and only take place at the end of the fiscal year in July if approved by the employee’s supervisor of record. Hours worked in more than one position or department cannot be combined for step advancement. Part‑time Classified employees are paid once monthly, on the last day of the month.

  • LBCC offers a pay incentive to eligible employees who demonstrate proficiency in conversational Spanish or other eligible languages.
  • Eligibility for bilingual pay incentive is subject to the provisions of Administrative Rule 6025‑06.

  • All new employees are required to be compensated via direct deposit.
  • Offers of employment are contingent on the applicant having Oregon residency at the time work commences.
