Job summary

Linn-Benton Community College is seeking a part-time catering support worker to assist with events in the Culinary Arts Catering program. You will help with food preparation, service setup, and event tear-down while upholding health and safety standards.

Typical duties include buffet setup, food and beverage preparation, equipment cleaning, and coordinating with kitchen staff and clients. Weekend and evening hours may be required; prior food service experience is preferred.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Must have a current Food Handler’s card or obtain within 30 days of employment.
• Minimum of one year of experience in food service with equipment experience (knife, slicer, dishwasher, fryers, ovens, etc.) is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Prepare for catering events by setting up buffets and cleaning up after service.
• Prepare food and beverages for event orders according to customer specifications.
• Maintain clean and safe work areas; follow health codes and safety procedures.
• Restock stations and notify lead of items needing replenishment.
• Assist with cleaning dishes and other duties as assigned.

Performs basic catering service duties for Culinary Arts Catering, including preparation of food items, serving and set-up and/or take down of events. Assists Catering Division employees with other tasks as needed.

• Prepares for catering events by setting up buffets before the start time and cleaning up buffet when the customers are finished.


• Prepares food & beverages for event orders according to the customers’ specifications in an efficient and accurate manner including hot/cold food preparation, baked items, and beverages.


• Maintains positive and respectful communications with kitchen crew and clients.


• Keeps work and service area in a safe, sanitary and orderly manner. Understands and complies with County/State/Federal health codes to ensure the health and safety of the customers.


• Cleans preparation and service equipment.


• Restocks work stations for needed supplies and notifies Catering Lead of items needing to be ordered.


• Washes dishes and assists with cleaning in other areas as needed.


• Performs other related duties as assigned.

Physical Skills and Abilities: Position involves long periods standing plus light to medium work, which includes, kneeling, and carrying and lifting of light to medium weight materials (10 to 50 pounds). Must be able to operate a computer and general office equipment. Requires ability to communicate effectively in person and over the phone.

Working Conditions: Work is normally performed in a kitchen setting with some safety hazards. Some weekend and evening hours may be required. Occasional travel to offsite may be required. Lifting, pushing, pulling and bending light to medium weight materials is often required for setting up and breaking down events.

• Position requires a high school diploma or equivalent.


• Must have a current Food Handler’s card or must obtain it within 30 days of employment.


• A minimum of one year’ experience in food service with equipment experience with knife, meat slicer, dishwasher, deep fryer, flat top grill, convection ovens, range and robot coupe food processor is preferred.

All Part-time Classified employees begin at Step 1 of the salary schedule, corresponding to the position’s grade. Placement at a higher step on the salary schedule is not negotiable. Step increases are subject to eligibility, and only take place at the end of the Fiscal Year in July if approved and submitted by the employee’s supervisor of record. Hours worked in more than one position or department cannot be combined for step advancement. Part-time Classified employees are paid once monthly, on the last day of the month.
