Qualifications

  • Registered Polysomnographic Technologist (RPSGT) with 18 months sleep lab experience.
  • Registered Sleep Technologist (RST) with 18 months sleep lab experience.
  • Respiratory Therapist license as required by the state of practice with NBRC credentials.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure completion of all patient testing procedures in Sleep Center and hospital.
  • Document results in Tech Notes and patient chart with accurate data.
  • Perform sleep studies per Sleep Evaluation Center guidelines, bedside and critical care areas.
  • Prepare initial data for physician sleep reports per department guidelines.
  • Communicate with patients using the AIDET process and explain study purpose and significance.
  • Observe and report patient concerns and status in a timely manner.
  • Maintain equipment, rooms, and CEU compliance; participate in trainings.
  • Assist in training trainees and staff; support team goals and problem solve.

Prepares initial data for use by the physician in the formulation of sleep reports according to established department guidelines. 5. Uses AIDET Communications Process (acknowledge, introduce, duration, explanation and thank you) and informs the patient and family regarding the nature and significance of the study performed. 6. Accurately observes, records, and reports all patient concerns, symptoms, and reactions in a timely manner. 7. Demonstrates the knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possesses the ability to assess data reflective of the patient’s status and interprets the appropriate information needed to identify each patient’s requirements relative to his/her age-specific needs, and to provide the care needed as described in the department policies and procedures 8. Maintains orderliness and cleanliness of the equipment, procedure rooms and work areas of the Sleep Evaluation Center. 9. Maintains CEU requirements and participates in department education and in-services. 10. Assists in the instruction and hands-on technical training of trainees, house-staff, and medical staff both inside and outside of the institution. 11. Participates in meeting the goals and objectives of the work unit and department by volunteering to assist co-workers, contributing ideas and problem solving with co-workers, as observed by supervision. 12.
