Job summary

Care New England Health System Sleep Lab is seeking a Sleep Lab Technician to score sleep records and prepare reports for physician interpretation. The role involves evaluating PSG/MSLT recordings and generating computerized PSG reports, with interpretation of data and calculation of relevant sleep metrics.

The position requires vocational/technical training with at least one year of related experience and a Registered Polysomnography technologist certification.

  • Determines heart rate ranges for waking and sleeping stages; identifies abnormalities in cardiac activity and respiration.
  • Assists with marketing the sleep lab to outside community and staff physicians.
  • Provides information to medical staff regarding test capabilities and requirements to increase knowledge of polysomnographic testing; performs in-service education.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Job description

Performs the duties of a Sleep Lab Technician, scores sleep record of patient and prepares for physician interpretation.

Responsibilities

1. Performs duties of a Sleep lab Technician and evaluates PSG and MSLT recordings. Generates

computerized PSG report.

2. Interprets raw data: score polysomnogram for sleep stages using standardized

criteria, compute parameters to include sleep latency, sleep efficiency and

percentage of sleep stages, analyze apneas and arousals(muscle and spontaneous).

3. Determine heart rate ranges for waking and sleeping stages. Identify and quantify

abnormalities in cardiac activity and respiration. Identifies normal/abnormal

patterns, artifacts and sleep/wake stages.

4. Assist with marketing the sleep lab to the outside community and staff physicians.

5. Provides information to the medical staff with regard to test capabilities and requirements in order

to increase medical staff knowledge of polysomnographic testing. Provides in-service education to

Job Qualifications and Specification

Vocational/technical training and a minimum of one year job-related experience or equivalent is required. Registered Polysomnography technologist certification is also required.

Physical Environment

The job is also typically required to perform work through eye/hand/foot coordination most of a normal workday.
