Job description

Job Description: Polysomnographic Technologist

Under the supervision of physicians, the polysomnographic technologist is responsible for independently performing patient care duties and providing customer service at the sleep disorders center.

1. Prepares patients for diagnostic testing according to departmental procedures.
2. Educates patients on sleep lab procedures.
3. Accurately scores and analyzes sleep studies.
4. Evaluates equipment function to ensure optimal results.
5. Performs therapeutic treatments and interventions independently.
6. Maintains responsibility for the work area.
7. Participates in professional activities and continuing education related to sleep disorders.
8. Other duties may be assigned as needed.

Position Compensation Range:

$24.24 - $38.78 Hourly

Minimum Requirements:

• Education: Bachelor's Degree or 6 months relevant experience in related fields such as Sleep EEG, Respiratory Therapy, or similar.
• Experience: Practice experience required to obtain Virginia licensure as a Polysomnographic Technologist.
• Licensure: Licensed as a Polysomnographic Technologist by the Virginia Board of Medicine, or credentialed as a Sleep Disorders Specialist by the NBRC, or an equivalent credential meeting accreditation standards. BLS certification from AHA required.
• Certification: Registered Polysomnographic Technologist or NBRC-SDS required within 6 months of hire or upon meeting eligibility.

Physical Demands:

The role requires prolonged sitting, frequent travel, repetitive motions (computer use), and the ability to lift/move patients. May involve exposure to fumes, chemicals, and infectious diseases.
