Job summary

Core4ce in Dayton, OH seeks a Research Chemist/Materials Scientist to lead polymer formulation and materials characterization work for defense and optical applications. You will design, synthesize, and optimize polymer systems, run supportive analyses, and collaborate with government, academic, and industry partners.

You will mentor junior researchers, publish findings, and contribute to high-throughput screening and automated workflows while adhering to strict safety and security requirements.

Qualifications

• Ph.D., MS or equivalent in Chemistry, Polymer Science & Engineering, Materials Science & Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or related field.
• At least 3 years of post‑degree or relevant hands‑on experience in polymer synthesis, formulation, and materials characterization.
• Ability to work in a chemical lab following EHS protocols and in an office setting with standard computer workstations.

Responsibilities

• Design and execute programs on advanced polymer formulations for defense and optical applications.
• Synthesize, compound, and optimize polymeric materials and resin matrices.
• Develop formulations with crosslinkers, initiators, catalysts, and plasticizers.
• Perform chemical separations and purifications (chromatography, distillation, recrystallization).
• Conduct thermal and mechanical characterization (DSC, TGA, DMA, rheology).
• Write scripts for data analysis and work with LIMS integration.
