WHAT WE CAN ACHIEVE TOGETHER

The Policy Analyst, a three-year term position with the possibility of extension depending on funding, provides research and policy analysis in support of The Nature Conservancy's climate and conservation policy priorities and tracks policies and decisions that directly affect climate goals in Washington State. This position will engage with partners, agencies, and frontline communities in support of equitable policy development and collaborative implementation. Priority policy areas for this position may include, but are not limited to, climate policy and carbon market implementation, clean energy siting, permitting, and deployment policy, equitable and scientifically rigorous public investments in climate action, and distinct federal budgeting and climate and conservation policy elements. Occasional travel and flexible evening hours may be necessary.

Essential position functions include:

  • Policy Project Coordination and Management (60%)
    • Influence the outcome of state and local policy. Provides research and policy analysis in support of The Nature Conservancy's policy and tracks policies and decisions that directly affect conservation goals.
    • Facilitate internal project teams to effectively integrate multiple perspectives.
    • Draft policy and funding-related actions, and policy-related recommendations, including white papers, fact sheets, economic analysis, legislation review, administrative policy review, and formal comments.
    • Understand and distribute information related to public policy actions connected to key priorities.
  • Partner and Community Relations (20%)
    • Identify critical partner relationships and work to thoughtfully develop, manage, and maintain positive partner relationships with relevant government agencies and staff, community and conservation organizations, Tribal representatives, industry and other partners.
    • Coordinate community input and engagement on policy documents.
    • Represent TNC in relevant policy dialogues convened by community and partners.
  • Team Engagement, Cross-Team Collaboration and Admin (20%)
    • Build and facilitate internal networks and work as a member of project teams where policy may be one of a suite of potential solutions pursued.
    • Set agendas, manage invitations, and run meetings or other events that support policy solution research, development, and review.

WHAT YOU'LL BRING
  • Bachelor's degree and 3 years related experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience researching information from divergent sources and compiling it into a cohesive reporting structure.
  • Experience with legislative, planning, policy, or corporate initiatives.
  • Experience presenting to and communicating with government or corporate staff and/or program leadership.
  • Experience working with partners/government agencies.
  • Fluency in English.

SALARY INFORMATION

The starting pay range for a candidate selected for this position is generally within the range of: $76,800 - $85,600 for annual base salary (Seattle) and $64,100 - $78,500 for annual base salary or $35.22/hour- $43.13/hour (Other Washington State Locations). This range only applies to candidates whose country of employment is the USA. Where a successful candidate's actual pay will fall within this range will be based on a variety of factors, including, for example, the candidate's location, qualifications, specific skills, and experience. Please note countries outside the USA would have a different pay range in the local currency based on the local labor market, and not tied to USA pay or ranges. Your geographic location will be confirmed during the recruitment.
