Job summary

Gilroy Police Department seeks a Police Officer Trainee to begin a P.O.S.T. Basic Academy. Trainees will receive a fixed monthly salary while attending the academy and sponsorship to complete training.

Upon successful completion of the academy, sworn officers will have access to advanced training and specialty assignments, with a path toward leadership and community safety. The program emphasizes integrity, teamwork, and service.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 20.5 years old at testing and 21 at appointment.
• Pass a P.O.S.T. physical agility test.
• Possess a valid California Driver License and clean driving record.
• Be free from physical conditions that affect peace officer duties.
• Bilingual English/Spanish desired but not required.

Responsibilities

• Attend and graduate from a California P.O.S.T. approved basic academy.
• Learn and perform related learning activities (defensive tactics, firearms, driving).
• Care for and maintain departmental equipment.
• Attend academy courses and training according to schedule.
