Job summary

IU Health Tipton Hospital is seeking a Full-Time Day Shift Public Safety Officer. You will conduct rounds and patrol IU Health properties, respond to calls, enforce rules, and help maintain a safe environment for staff, patients and visitors.

Required: High School Diploma or GED, 0–3 years of relevant experience, valid Indiana Driver's License, and completion of Indiana Law Enforcement Academy Tier I or II within one year.

Qualifications

• Indiana Driver's License may be required depending on role.
• Successful completion of Indiana Law Enforcement Academy Tier I or Tier II training within one year after appointment.

• Responds to calls for service and enforces IU Health rules and policies.
• Provides direction and guidance to team members, guests and patients; de-escalates tense situations.
• Investigates criminal activity and vehicle crashes when needed.
• Maintains records and logs; completes written reports as required.
• Creates a safe healthcare environment for staff, patients and guests; performs other duties as assigned.

Overview

Schedule: Full-Time Day Shift

Work Location: Tipton Hospital

Department Supported: Public Safety

Primary Responsibilities:

Conducts rounding and foot and vehicle patrols in and around properties that are owned, leased or occupied by IU Health. Responds to calls for service. Enforces and assists in the enforcement of IU Health rules, regulations, policies and state statutes. Provides direction and guidance to team members, guests and patients. Assists teams with de-escalating tense, uncertain and emotional situations. Proactively works to prevent crime and safety incidents. Responds to and investigates criminal activity and vehicle crashes as needed. Maintains records and logs and completes written reports as required. Performs physical security screening as required. Creates a safe healthcare environment for team members, patients and guests. Performs other duties as assigned by the chain of command.

Candidate Requirements:

• High School Diploma/GED is required.
• Requires 0-3 years of relevant experience.
• Requires current non-restricted Indiana Driver's License.
• Requires successful completion of Indiana Law Enforcement Academy Tier I or Tier II training within one (1) year after appointment as a police officer.
• Must be able to obtain NCIC/IDACS certification and access.
• Must not have convictions for felony, domestic violence or violent misdemeanor offenses.
• Must be able to pass a pre-employment background investigation, drug screening and psychological exam.
• Requires working knowledge of computers and various software programs.
• Have never had law enforcement officer license denied by final order or revoked.
• Not currently on suspension or have a voluntary surrender of a law enforcement license currently in effect.

Benchmarks:

• 3 months - Achieve understanding of the initial job roles
• 6 months - Utilizing time to ensure safety and security
• 12 months - Competent in identifying new areas to improve safety and security.
