Job description

This is a public notice flyer to notify interested applicants of anticipated vacancies. Applications will not be accepted through this flyer. Notice of Result letters will not be sent to applicants who respond to this flyer.

Duties
  1. You will perform duties as an FTO, instructing new police officers in their specific tasks and techniques, and providing written instructions, referencing M1 trellis and supplies to assist in the instruction given.
  2. You will provide on-the-job training to new police officers in accordance with the FTO program and establish procedures and practices.
  3. You will monitor the progress of trainees and make recommendations for improvement.
  4. You will ensure new police officers perform work according to 10 DCPENMEN 1 guidelines and make recommendations for improvement.
  5. You will make on-the-spot decisions on out-of-the-ordinary incidents, monitor activities in the field, and provide technical guidance, assistance, and instruction to new police officers.
  6. You will check on work in progress, review Incident Reports for accuracy, and annotate discrepancies and/or areas of concern.
  7. You will answer questions of new police officers on procedures, policies, directives, etc.
  8. You will be responsible for ensuring trainees are receiving training and are current on all qualifications.
  9. You will respond to and investigate complaints while enforcing federal laws, the Uniform Code of Military Justice, and Naval and Marine Corps regulations and installation directives.
  10. You will respond to emergency calls, complaints, and other calls for service during the watch.
Requirements
  1. Must be a US Citizen.
  2. Must be determined suitable for federal employment.
  3. Must participate in the direct deposit pay program.
  4. New employees to the Department of the Navy will be required to successfully pass the E-Verify employment verification check. To learn more about E-Verify, including your rights and responsibilities, visit e-verify.gov.
  5. Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.
  6. Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service.
  7. This position is subject to shift work. Incumbent is subject to 24-hour recall and will maintain a 24-hour recall notification number and is required to respond. May be interrupted from meal or other work breaks while on duty.
  8. May be required to respond to off-base circumstances as directed by the installation commander, in accordance with USMC and DoD policy.
  9. Incumbent must pass a sanctioned physical agility test and medical evaluation and pass periodic re-tests as required.
  10. Incumbent must pass all weapons qualifications prior to assigned duties and responsibilities and must pass all re-qualifications as required.
  11. Must possess and maintain a valid state driver's license and be able to maintain a U.S. Government emergency vehicle operator's license.
  12. Incumbent must be able to read, write, and speak English.
  13. Incumbent must carry firearms.
  14. This is a Department of Navy drug testing designated position. Incumbent is required to undergo pre-employment urinalysis requirements and sustainment drug testing.
  15. Must be able to use all police equipment, certify in the use of radar detection and alcohol detection equipment, field sobriety tests, expandable or collapsible baton, and obtain other certifications required to accomplish the duties.
  16. Position is covered by the 1996 Lautenberg Amendment to the Gun Control Act of 1968. Persons convicted of a misdemeanor or felony crime of domestic violence are not eligible for the position.
  17. Must be a U.S. Citizen and pass a National Agency Check and local background check.
  18. This position does not meet the definition of law enforcement officer (LEO) and is excluded from coverage as LEO for purposes of the Federal Employment Retirement System-Base Annuity IAW 5 CFR, Part 842, Subpart H.
  19. Must be at least 18 years of age.
  20. Must maintain program height and weight appearance standards.
Qualifications
  1. GS-08: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-07 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. This experience must include providing training and instruction of law enforcement equipment usage and application techniques, law enforcement procedures, and responding to emergency calls, complaints, and other calls for service during the watch.
  2. GS-07: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-06 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience. This experience must include providing knowledge of basic laws and regulations, law enforcement operations, practices, and techniques, and the responsibility for maintaining order and protecting life and property.
