Job Description

As a Police Officer (Field Training Officer), you will:

  1. Perform duties as an FTO, instruct new officers, and provide written instructions and reference materials.
  2. Provide on-the-job training to new officers, establish procedures, and monitor trainee progress.
  3. Ensure officers adhere to guidelines and make recommendations for improvement.
  4. Make decisions on incidents, monitor field activities, and provide technical guidance.
  5. Review incident reports for accuracy and address discrepancies.
  6. Answer questions related to procedures, policies, and directives.
  7. Ensure trainees are current on qualifications and training requirements.
  8. Respond to emergencies, investigate complaints, and enforce laws and regulations.
  9. Respond to calls for service during shifts, including off-base circumstances as directed.
  10. Complete physical agility tests, weapons qualifications, and maintain necessary certifications.
  11. Possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and U.S. Government emergency vehicle license.
  12. Carry firearms and use police equipment, certifying in radar, sobriety tests, and other tools.
  13. Meet all medical, physical, and legal requirements, including background checks and security clearances.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen, at least 18 years old, and eligible for security clearance.
  • Must pass physical, medical, weapons, and drug tests.
  • Possess a valid driver’s license and be able to read, write, and speak English.
  • Experience in law enforcement or related fields, with specific experience depending on the GS level.
  • Additional qualifications include training certifications, physical fitness, and legal eligibility.
Additional Information

This position is mission essential, with shift work, overtime, and the need to wear a uniform. Successful candidates must complete required training courses and maintain certifications.
